J. Lo Beauty Line...Is It Worth the Hype?
Simply Audrey v. J. Lo Beauty
I am going out on a limb and assuming the majority of humans are fascinated with Jennifer Lopez like I am. She is a 51 year old goddess who claims that she has never had Botox, yet her forehead is taut, and always appears lustrous. So naturally, my ears perked up when I heard the ageless J. Lo was developing her own skincare line. It launched on Jan. 1, 2021, and by Jan. 7 I had ordered three products: That Hit Single Cleanser, That J. Lo Glow Serum, and That Blockbuster Wonder Cream. This review is product specific to 'That Blockbuster' Wonder Cream.THE FACTS
- It's packed with peptides and hydrochloric acid, but the secret ingredient throughout the entire beauty line is the J. Lo Beauty Olive Complex, which is an antioxidant-rich, 4-part olive blend of squalene, fermented oil, extra virgin oil and leaf extract
- Claims to nourish, brighten, smooth and plump
- The 1.5 oz container of face cream cost $58.00 (plus tax)
- The packaging is beautiful, if not a bit flashy
- I have been using it 1-2 times per day since receiving it on Jan. 19, 2021
MY FINDINGS
The marketing professional within me can begin until I make it clear how much I dislike the names given to each individual product. I mean....whyyyyyyyy?!?!?! But let's set that aside and discuss the deets of That Blockbuster.
The lotion is extremely thick, almost comparable to a body butter. The upside to this is that my face feels immediately hydrated when applied. The downside is that I have difficulty wearing it during the day--especially if I am going to be active and/or wearing make-up.
It's also worth mentioning That Blockbuster has a very distinct fragrance. While my husband finds it overwhelming, my kids love it. But scent is so subjective! My recommendation is if you are at all sensitive to smell, go to a beauty store, such as an Ulta or Sephora, before purchasing and give it the good ole' sniff test. Because whether you find it pleasant or pungent, there is no doubt the aroma is strong.
As for the claims that it "nourishes, brightens, smooths and plumps"--after a month of use, I haven't seen my face magically plump up or the wrinkles creep away. BUT I do notice a glow immediately after application. And while that could be seen as a good thing, it also means that the lotion leaves a wee bit of a greasy layer. However, if you can tolerate that feeling, you will most definitely experience a soft-as-tush face after a couple hours.
THE FINAL VERDICT
That Blockbuster Wonder Cream only gets three stars from me. I will continue to use it as a night cream until the product runs out. If you remotely consider yourself to be a "face sweater", this is not the daytime facial lotion for you. All in all, there are other products I like much better that are comparable in price and provide me better results. (More on those in another post.) Feel free to leave a comment or ask a question!
